Piney Woods Custom Woodworks is a veteran-owned shop building custom furniture in Tyler, TX and all across East Texas. From dining tables and live-edge slabs to custom wood doors and home decor, we produce handmade custom wood products and add epoxy to any piece you want. Our goal is to bring integrity and pride back to the American furniture business by not only producing handmade custom wood products but always standing behind each custom piece. Custom Dining Tables That Outlast the Trends
We build custom dining tables in mesquite, black walnut, and pecan, sized to fit your room and the crowd you feed. You pick the wood, the finish, and how rustic or refined you want it. We build it to take spilled gravy, homework, and forty years of holidays without flinching. This is real woodworking, not flat-pack furniture you put together with a tiny wrench and a bad attitude.
Live-Edge and Epoxy River Tables
A live-edge table keeps the natural shape of the wood, so nobody else on earth has yours. Our epoxy river tables pour a river of color right down the middle, and they tend to be the first thing folks notice when they walk in. Tell us the slab, the pour color, and the base you like. We will quote it after a free consultation, no pressure and no salesman nonsense.
Custom Wood Doors, Lighting, and Whatever Else You Dream Up
We also build solid wood entry doors, sliding barn doors, and handcrafted light fixtures. If your brother-in-law swears it cannot be built, that is usually our favorite kind of project. As a veteran-owned shop serving Tyler, Jacksonville, and all of East Texas, we treat every build like it has our name on it, because it does. The list keeps growing. We build custom fireplace mantles that anchor a room, outdoor furniture tough enough to take the Texas weather, and custom taxidermy mounts and displays for your prize buck. If you do not see it here, ask anyway. Odds are good we have already built one or can figure it out.

Tommy does not build everything in the building, but he is picky about what earns a spot on the floor. The Tyler showroom also carries leather furniture, leather recliners, bar stools, and select chairs from trusted vendors, so you can knock out a whole room in one stop instead of chasing five stores.
Our Story
Tommy Spell:
Born in Mississippi and soon moved to Bryan Texas. Graduated high school then spent a year exploring. Joined the Army in 2001 as a 19D cavalry scout field reconnaissance. Was stationed at fort Polk Louisiana and was deployed as expeditionary forces to Iraq.
After his return he was quickly stationed at fort hood Texas and deployed again. After 18 months of severe duty he was diagnosed with type one diabetes and retired from service. From there he went to college on the gulf coast of Mississippi while his wife (Christy Spell) did her prerequisites for occupational Therapy.
From there they moved to Austin Texas to finish up college and begin their careers.
Tommy had a strong passion for welding that eventually led to him growing into the world of homebuilding. He made his mark building steel Ibeam barndominiums and started woodworking on a very small scale as a hobby and way to decompress from the rigor of general contracting. Word of his craftsmanship, quality and attention to detail soon got out and calls and orders started flowing in. Piney Woods was born. He dedicates his craft to God and his quality to his patience and the wonderful people that he has chosen to be employed in this small but growing family.

Do you build custom dining tables?
Yep. We build custom dining tables in mesquite, black walnut, pecan, and live-edge slabs, with optional epoxy river inlays. Built to your size, wood, and finish.
What is an epoxy river table?
It is a wood slab with a poured resin "river" of color down the center. You pick the slab, the color, and the base. It is one of our most popular custom builds.
How long does a custom piece take?
Most furniture and doors run about 4 to 8 weeks from the time we lock in the design, depending on the wood, the finish, and how busy the shop is. Call and we will give you a real timeline.
Are you a veteran-owned business?
Yes sir. Founder Tommy Spell served in the U.S. Army as a 19D Cavalry Scout with a deployment to Iraq before starting Piney Woods.
